I’m Abbie Werner, an instructional designer based in Virginia with a passion for creating meaningful learning experiences for higher education.
My career began in higher education, where I worked closely with students as an academic advisor. That role helped me develop a deep understanding of learner needs, motivation, and the institutional systems that support (or sometimes complicate) their success.
Over time, my interest shifted toward the design of learning itself, how courses are structured, how content is delivered, and how technology can be used to make education more inclusive and engaging. That led me into instructional design, where I now focus on creating online and hybrid learning environments that center accessibility, equity, and Universal Design for Learning (UDL). I enjoy collaborating with subject matter experts, faculty, and students to build materials that genuinely support understanding and growth.
My professional goals include helping institutions and organizations elevate their online learning experiences. Whether I’m working on a course redesign, training module, or accessibility audit, my goal is the same: make learning work better for everyone.
When not working, I enjoy painting, photography, and kayaking the waters around my home near the Chesapeake Bay.
